FAQs

What is serum and why should it be in my skincare routine?

Serums do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to a skincare routine. They are lightweight hydrators that contain a higher concentration of active ingredients than typical moisturizers. They are molecularly formulated to penetrate the skin further, delivering hydration and beneficial nutrients to deeper layers of the skin. Serums help to repair and protect your skin from a variety of concerns such as pre-mature aging, hyperpigmentation, and acne. Oils, creams, and lotions contain larger molecules and can only penetrate the outermost layers of the skin. They serve to fortify the moisture barrier, which is why they are best applied after a serum.

Why may I use Dermal Sérum on my face and body?

Our custom formulation was designed to nourish our bodies with the same potent ingredients, attention, and care as we do our faces. Dermal Serum is non-comedogenic (will not cause pore blockages or breakouts), so is appropriate for head-to-toe use. While other products are designed for specific regions (e.g., a thick cream for heels and feet would not be appropriate for use on your face) Dermal Sérum absorbs quickly and completely and can thusly be easily layered upon (with your clothes or more products). In essence, this serum will make your cheeks glow – all four of them.

If I use Dermal Sérum, do I also need a moisturizer?

This depends upon you: where you live, your skin type, and time of year. For instance, men have more sebaceous (oil producing) glands and have reported less need for additional moisturizer. Alternatively, if you are living in the northeast and the winter winds are blowing, you may find the need to layer upon your Dermal Sérum. Lotion or oil will "seal" in Dermal Sérum, so it is important that Dermal Serum be applied BEFORE thicker moisturizers in order to achieve the maximum benefits.

What ingredients are allowed in Protéger products?

The term “clean skincare” is ubiquitous and meaningless. There is no federally recognized definition so each company can create their own. Instead, we’ve adopted the cosmetic ingredient standards set forth by two organizations: the European Union and EcoCert.

European Union

Our European Union compliant formulas exclude over 1,300 chemicals that are known or suspected to cause bodily harm (e.g. cancer, genetic mutation, reproductive harm or birth defects). In comparison, the U.S. FDA has only banned or restricted 11 chemicals from cosmetics.

Ecocert

We follow the below sourcing standards:

- Raw materials must be obtained from renewable, eco-friendly sources and carefully processed.

- The products must be free from GMOs (genetically modified organisms), parabens, phenoxyethanol, nanoparticles, silicone, PEG, synthetic perfumes or dyes and animal products

- At least 95% of the total ingredients must stem from natural origin

- The packaging must be biodegradable or recyclable

What is stabilized Vitamin C?

Our gentle yet potent (20% concentration) vitamin C stimulates collagen, protects from external aggressions, and corrects and prevents dyspigmentation (i.e. hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation). This antioxidant is stabilized (protected against oxidation, pollution, and heat) through microencapsulation using a sucrose protective coating. This delivery system maintains the integrity of the otherwise-volatile ingredient. For added protection against oxidation, which diminishes the potency of Vitamin C, our head-to-toe serum uses a pump to dispense the formula. Unlike many facial serums that use a pipette, our pump allows you to use Dermal Serum without exposing the contents of the product to air and light every use.

Why is Dermal Sérum fragrance-free?

Dermal Serum omits fragrance for several reasons:

- If you apply other products or perfume to your body, we don't want to adulterate the smells you already love.

- Fragrance can be polarizing. Since this product is designed for broad surface area, we wanted any smell to dissipate just as quickly as it absorbs into the skin..

- Organic skincare is often scented with essential oils, which can cause irritation and allergen contact dermatitis. Dermal Sérum's natural scent comes from its 100% organic aloe leaf juice and neutralizes upon absorption.

Is Dermal Sérum for everybody?

If you're a human, you're in. We've formulated Dermal Sérum to be as inclusive and as it is powerful. Our formula is designed for all skin types, excludes common allergens and fragrance, and was developed to honor nature and all beings that inhabit it.

Is Dermal Serum safe to use during pregnancy?

Yes, we intentionally designed Dermal Serum to be pregnancy safe. Our custom formulation is free of parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde, sodium lauryl sulphate, vitamin A derivatives, and all ingredients that could cause harm to a baby in utero. Many of our customers apply it to their torso, while their baby bump grows, to ensure the skin is fully hydrated while expanding.

How long will my Dermal Serum last?

FAQ Table-01.png

While we like to nourish our skin from head-to-toe, many people prioritize Dermal Sérum for facial care only --our 6.76oz goes a long way.

What's the product expiration date?

Food we put into our bodies include expiration dates, so why would products we put on your bodies be any different? There are no U.S. laws or regulations requiring expiration dates on skincare product labels. We believe in a more transparent standard.

Shelf Life = 2 years

Period After Opening = 6 months

These timeframes have been determined for Dermal Sérum through physical, chemical, and microbiological stability testing.

What should I expect from an organic skincare product?

Guilt-free luxury. Our EcoCert Greenlife Certified laboratory* adheres to ecoresponsible manufacturing standards including no chemical synthetic pesticides and GMOs. Our products are always botanically derived, vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free. Slight variations in scent and appearance for skincare is the beauty of an organic, plant-based formula. Many organic skincare companies, like Protéger, formulate in small batches since the shelf life is often shorter. This is a good thing. This means there is less production waste and there are no harmful preservatives, like parabens, trying to keep your skincare as fresh as

Wonderbread.
